2023 Paul Osicka Heathcote Cabernet Sauvignon
Fine and elegant with slightly chalky tannins and a refined yet dusty finish.
Midnight black core with a dark red black tinged hue. Red to black currant and mulberry scents drift through the nostrils followed by some dusty vanillin cedar, tobacco and bay leaf notes. The elegant, fine boned palate features red to black currant and mulberry fruits over vanillin cedar, dusty earth, spicy tobacco and infusions of bay leaf. Dry, slightly chalky tannins with good underlying freshness and a refined yet dusty finish.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.

Other Reviews….
Estate grapes planted in the '50s and '80s; extended post-ferment maceration, pressed to French oak (25% new). A fine partner to the maker's warmer (northern) Colbinabbin cabernet, emphasising liveliness of spice and an all-round firm tannin and varietal intensity. Cassis, leafy aromas, black and purple fruits, roasting herbs and light florals offer a gentle, youthful complexity. Quite effortlessly smooth and well honed on the palate, with a touch of hazelnut oak layered through. Tannins are deceptively firm. Will last the distance. Drink by 2036.
