2023 Oakridge Vineyard Series Hazeldene Pinot Noir

Expansive, powerful and silky textured, this moreish Yarra Valley Pinot is an absolute steal when compared to it’s Burgundian counterparts.

Matured in French oak barrels for 11 months. Semi translucent red to dark red colour with black toned edges and a light crimson red hue. Wonderfully fragrant nose with perfumed scents of violet, red to dark cherry, anise and strawberry leading the way. Traces of rhubarb, bramble, forest floor and dried herbs provide further complexity. Expansive and powerful, moreish red to dark cherry, strawberry, rhubarb and anise flavours glide across the palate with a silken feel. Underlying notions of forest floor, bramble, dried herbs and delicate spicy cedar complete the sophisticated flavour profile. Perfectly integrated, velvet smooth tannins. Combining richness with finesse and a supple feel, it finishes with outstanding length. Trophy for best wine in show at the 2024 Yarra Valley Wine Show.

From '98 plantings of MV6 at Gladysdale. The fact that this was The James Halliday Wine of Show at last year's Yarra Valley Wine Show, beating the Hazeldene Chardonnay in the process, says it all. Perfumed and captivating aromas of red fruits, dark rose and a little whole-bunched-derived sous bois. Medium bodied, this silky-textured wine finishes with just the right amount of understated and persistent tannins. Irresistible now and, I'd imagine, over the next six to eight years plus. Drink by 2032.
