Started in the 1980’s, Mount Horrocks was purchased by Stephanie Toole in 1993 and it was from there that it’s reputation was built as one of the country’s top Riesling producers. Certified Organic and biodynamic the vineyard is unusual in that it is south facing and at a very high altitude – two factors that contribute to a cooler site which is preferred in this time of climate warming.
Brilliant water like core with a greenish tinged surrounds. Bounding out of the glass are intense lime, citrus and orange rind aromatics which are trailed by talc, green apple and chalky mineral notes. The mouth watering palate is a concentrate of lime, citrus and orange rind fruits which are delivered with outstanding textural volume and power. Chalky talc and slatey mineral characters lie underneath. Crunchy acidity with a very long, super scrumptious finish.
Superb drinking over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 12.7%

Other Reviews….
Aromas break free from the glass with concentration like essential oils of cypress, lavender, lemon zest and peppermint. Packed tightly with gunpowder in the air, a type of dusty rock spread amongst the flowers and the fruit. It’s dense and detailed. Flavours are like drinking the essence infused with nutmeg and barky cinnamon, a cool slate-like feel of texture and a long cool minty finish with ruby grapefruit lingering long. Complex and invigorating potion. Drink 2023-2033+

Kasia Sobiesiak – Wine Front

Owner/winemaker Stephanie Toole adopted biodynamic viticulture in 2013. The wine’s highly expressive bouquet has echoes of lavender and citrus blossom; the palate is direct and intense, with layer upon layer of lime and green apple. Drink to 2035.
