2023 Messwein Stift Goettweig Gruner Veltliner
High in the hills across the Danube River between Krems and Dürnstein sits the Stift Göttweig monastery which offers breath-taking view of the Wachau valley and its surrounding landscapes. Home to wine making activity since 1094 the monastery also owns some fabulous vineyards which are managed by the renown Fritz Miesbauer who was the driving force behind the revitalisation of Domäne Wachau.
Brilliant very pale straw colour with highlights of green around the edges and a watery hue. Uplifted aromas of pear and red apple drift through the nostrils followed by some quince, wet stone and delicate spicy honeysuckle like notes. Delicious pear, lime and red apple fruits are underpinned by zingy mineral tinged acidity. Some light quince is also apparent. Finishes dry, long and elegant.
Drink over the next 2-3 years.
