Hudelot-Noëllat is no longer one of Burgundy’s hidden gems as word is well and truly out now on just how exceptional these wines are. Charles Van Canneyt runs this iconic family owned domaine based in Vougeot where he crafts elegant and classic wines from some of the region’s most prized vineyards. Staying true to tradition, Charles practices minimal intervention in the cellar along with limited new oak usage. His aim is to produce refined Burgundy with an emphasis on purity and finesse, all while letting the terroir shine.

An elegant, pure and airy nose is comprised by notes of the essence of red cherry, dark currant, violet, lavender and a hint of crushed anise. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the lightly stony and well-detailed medium weight flavors that conclude in a youthfully austere, complex and well-balanced finale. This is pretty much textbook LPV and warmly recommended. Drink through 2031+.

The 2023 Vougeot 1er Cru Les Petits Vougeot is showing especially well this year, wafting from the glass with aromas of sweet raspberries, orange rind and vine smoke, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy palate that's layered and textural, with melting tannins and a perfumed finish.

The 2023 Vougeot Les Petits Vougeot 1er Cru has a fragrant bouquet with a dark berry aroma mixed with damp loam and iodine scents. This has very fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a sense of symmetry and a linear, quite strict, saline finish. Give this three or four years. Drink 2027-2042.

A fresh ruby, slightly the densest of the colours to date and with a concentration of fruit to match. On the cusp of red and black fruit, with a suave texture in the mouth, a little layer of velvet, notable persistence with fruit returning well after the finish. Drink from 2030-2036.
