2023 Hudelot-Noellat Vosne-Romanee Les Suchots Premier Cru
Hudelot-Noëllat is no longer one of Burgundy’s hidden gems as word is well and truly out now on just how exceptional these wines are. Charles Van Canneyt runs this iconic family owned domaine based in Vougeot where he crafts elegant and classic wines from some of the region’s most prized vineyards. Staying true to tradition, Charles practices minimal intervention in the cellar along with limited new oak usage. His aim is to produce refined Burgundy with an emphasis on purity and finesse, all while letting the terroir shine.

Fresh and spicy aromas of exotic tea, a plethora of floral elements and various dark berries leads to solidly concentrated and powerful medium-bodied flavors that presently conclude in a raspy and firm finish that exhibits a touch of astringency that I suspect comes from the saignée. This may well age out successfully but for the moment it's less well-balanced and most of the wines in the range. Drink through 2035+.

The 2023 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots is another of the standouts this year, wafting from the glass with aromas of dark berries, licorice, rose petals and spices. Medium to full-bodied, deep and textural, it's layered and seamless, with sweet structuring tannins and a long, perfumed finish.

The 2023 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru has a gorgeous bouquet, with pure black cherry and raspberry fruit, light floral and crushed violet scents. The oak is seamlessly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with candied orange peel and wild strawberry fruit tones. Filigree tannins frame the finish that delivers the controlled opulence that you expect from a Les Suchots. This is superb. Drink 2027-2048.

Neal Martin - Vinous
Ancient vines, tiny millerand grapes, have delivered a wine of incredibly intense colour, a deep and imperial purple. You can smell those grape skins on the nose. As powerful a Suchots as I can remember yet not denatured by this intensity. Blueberries and bilberries, yielding to a precise, concentrated finish. Drink from 2030-2038.
