2023 Fin Wines Dandelions & Bumblebees
Fin Wines, launched in January 2020 by JonJo McEvoy, Oliver Johns, and Angus Hean, is a fermentation collective based in Dixons Creek, Yarra Valley, on Wurundjeri Country. Focused on producing fresh, fun, and highly drinkable wines, ciders, and piquettes, they use minimal intervention techniques like spontaneous fermentation, no filtering, and minimal additives. The 10-acre vineyard, planted in the early 1990s on grey-red sandy loam over clay, is sustainably farmed to preserve soil and biodiversity. Its mix of south and north-facing slopes benefits from cooling influences from nearby hills.
This textural white is a blend of Roussanne, Sauvignon Blanc, and Viognier. The Roussanne and Viognier come from the mineral-rich Box Grove site on the Goulburn River floodplains, while the Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from a granite-laden site in the Strathbogie Ranges. Handpicked fruit was pressed into a mix of oak and stainless steel, with the Sauvignon Blanc spending a week on skins before wild fermentation. Fresh and zesty, it features pear, citrus, and white stone fruit, with hints of wildflowers and a beeswax-like texture.
