2023 Esilio Tooth & Nail Sangiovese
Generous red fruits backed by sturdy tannins and energetic acidity with a quite rustic finish that shows plenty of spice.
Midnight black core with a dark red hue. Spicy red currant aromas show good lift out of the glass followed by some dried herb, earth and subtle tobacco notes. Generous red currant and red cherry fruits are backed by a sturdy tannin structure which imparts a chalky feel across the back palate. Some liquorice, earthy tobacco, dried herb and spice characters sit underneath. Energetic acidity with a long well fleshed yet quite rustic finish that shows plenty of spice.
Drink over the next 2-3 years.

Other Reviews….
From the rolling hills north-east of Adelaide in what’s known as the One Tree Hill district, we get a pretty ballsy Sangio with a decent whack of oak impact on first opening – not surprising as a result of 15 months maturation in French and American barrels, new and seasoned, the latter source letting itself known in the bouquet. The fruit is quite jubey, crimson and black berried, finishing with timbery and grippy tannins. Will definitely satisfy those who like their oaked-style wines and will perform a treat with a serious cut of beef.
