ECK Wines is the work of Emily C. Kinsman, a former Collins Street lawyer who traded city life for winemaking in Central Victoria. Since her first vintage in 2019, Emily has grown organically farmed Shiraz on the northern banks of Lake Eppalock while also producing négociant wines under her ECK label. In 2024, she expanded to a remarkable 5-acre Macedon Ranges vineyard, planted in 1987 to Pinot Noir and Gewürztraminer at 800m altitude. Her wines reflect both place and passion—crafted with love, hope, and no small measure of hard work.

The 2023 Doug’s Pinot Noir is a rare expression of Macedon Ranges fruit, sourced from Doug’s vineyard in the cool sub-region of Romsey. Planted in the 2000s at 530m on a north-facing basalt slope, the site is home to a mix of MV6, 114, and 115 clones, producing fruit of purity and finesse.
Hand-picked on April 26, the grapes were vinified with a mix of techniques—whole bunch and whole berry ferments in amphora, alongside de-stemmed fruit fermented in open vats with daily plunging. After pressing, the wine matured for 14 months in seasoned French oak barriques and amphora, before being bottled unfined and unfiltered in December 2024.
