2023 Domaine Pernot Pere et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin Les Jeunes Rois
Domaine Pernot Pere et Fils is rising producer in the Côte de Nuits, historically rooted in the village of Brochon, just north of Gevrey-Chambertin. The estate, formally established in 1900, is now led by the ambitious fourth-generation winemaker, Pascal Pernot. Since taking over in 2018, Pascal has quickly elevated the domaine's reputation by championing a philosophy of vineyard purity, working hard to progress the vineyards to a sustainable viticulture while slowly implementing aspects of biodynamics. A key point of difference is his commitment to early picking to ensure the wines retain freshness and natural acidity, providing structural elegance and longevity. Fermentations are carried out with indigenous yeasts, and the elevage is handled judiciously with a mix of traditional barrels and larger demi-muids.
Other Reviews....
Pascal pulled out half after 2023 so as to be able to replant in a better organised fashion. All destemmed, and aged in wood from the forest of Jupille. Deep dark purple. The nose has a little stewed plum, Rich sultry fruit, very dark raspberry, but opens out a little more at the back. Quite a powerful expression. Black cherries to finish, though not overdone. In the end, the juicier of the two single vineyard wines. Drink from 2028-2033.
