2023 Domaine Metrat et Fils La Roilette Fleurie Cuvee Vieilles Vignes

From vines planted as long ago as 1936. La Roilette is regarded as one of the best sites in Fleurie, and this old vines cuvee (60-90+ years old vines) is produced from a patch of vines planted in pink granite-clay soil located beside the winery in the northern part of the appellation beside Moulin-a-Vent. 15% of this cuvee is vinified in barrel (none new) giving extra dimension to its freshness and perfume, will also age for 10+ years.
Deep dark red black tinged colour with a dark red hue. Spicy morello cherry and anise aromas show good aromatic lift out of the glass mixing with some earthy incense and dried herb notes along the way. Juicy morello cherry and anise flavours are interwoven with earthy incense, dried herb and spice elements. Mildly chewy tannins and bright acidity with a well fleshed earthy incense laced finish.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.
