2023 Clos Saint Jean Les Calades
A juicy explosion of rich black fruit.
An entry level label from one of Chateauneuf Du Pape’s most acclaimed domaines, Clos Saint Jean with fruit being sourced from Vaucluse which adjoins the Chateauneuf du Pape appellation. A blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Caladoc aged in concrete vats for 9 months, Caladoc is a hybrid grape – a cross between Grenache and Malbec that’s well suited to dry, warm climates.
Very deep dark red black colour with a dark red hue. The alluring nose is flooded with ripe dark raspberry, black cherry and liquorice aromas which are complimented by some provincial herb, earthy incense and pepper notes. Rich and opulent, juicy black raspberry, liquorice and ripe black cherry fruits explode across the palate with notions of scorched earth, infusions of provincial herbs, incense and peppered meats lurking in the background. Polished yet slightly chewy tannins. Expansive and powerful, it has a long, succulent finish.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
