2023 Bowen Estate Coonawarra Shiraz
Elegant, red fruited Coonawarra Shiraz with the refined finish showing ample freshness.
Still family owned and operated, this small Coonawarra vineyard has been evolving over the past 40+ years and now involves their daughter, Emma who has taken on the winemaking role whilst Doug is looking after the viticultural side of things. The Estate consists of 33 hectares of vines planted on the prized Coonawarra Terra Rosa soils. Established in 1972, the first vintage in 1975 was greeted with considerable enthusiasm.
Dense inky black in colour with a deep dark purple black tinged hue. Elevated blackberry, dark chocolate and liquorice aromas are joined by some dark plum, spicy vanillin cedar and earthy mocha notes. From a cooler vintage, the palate is more in the red fruit spectrum and much more elegant than expected featuring red plum and liquorice fruits over dusty earth, spicy vanillin cedar and pepper elements. Fine grained tannins with the refined finish showing ample freshness.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
