2022 Wendouree Cabernet Malbec

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (52%) and Malbec (48%) from 1920 and 1940 Eastern, and 1971 Western.

Ripe wine, black fruit and plum, with a Kahlua or Ovaltine thing, lots of flavour, dark and coffeed, some liquorice. Medium to full-bodied, lots of grain and grip to tannin, has some lemony zing on a bold finish of excellent length. It should resolve, but it’s a little push-me-pull-you as at now. Spicy. Ample, perhaps a bit more wine-made than is usual for Wendouree. Tobacco savoury stuff. Lighter, more frisky, and perhaps lacking some of the usual ferrous grip and intensity that you’d expect, but hey, good wine. I don’t love it, but I like it. Drink 2027 - 2040.
