2022 Torbreck Hillside Vineyard Grenache
A decadently rich, intense and voluptuous Grenache.
Sourced from a bush vine block planted in 1949. Very deep dark red black heart with a dark red hue. Potent ripe black raspberry, liquorice and black plum scents engulf the olfactory senses followed by some ripe black cherry, vanillin oak, scorched earth and peppered dried herb notes. Decadently rich, intense and voluptuous, the weighty palate is awash with lavish black raspberry, liquorice and black cherry liqueur flavours. Vanillin oak, scorched earth and peppered dried herb elements the undercard. Silky smooth tannins finishing opulent and powerful.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 15%
Other Reviews…..
Lovely dried strawberries with hints of chocolate and walnut on the nose and palate. Medium body with some floral notes and a juicy finish. A freshness and brightness here. Agile. The vineyards were planted in 1949. So attractive now but will age well. Drink or hold.

Sourced from the 1949-planted Hillside vineyard in Lyndoch; partial whole bunches, 18 months in a 2400L French oak foudre. Mid-crimson with characters of red cherry, red plum and white peach with a touch of red apple skin. Hints of five-spice, gingerbread, cola, red licorice, redcurrant jelly, earth and pressed citrus blossom. Some nice detail and space on the palate with fine, pithy tannin grip, a bright mineral cadence and a touch of morello cherry on the savoury exit. Drink by 2035.

The 2022 Hillside Vineyard Grenache is perfectly representative of the 2022 vintage. It is plush and attractive, appealing and open and offers consummate balance between its component parts: tannins, acidity and fruit notes are all performing in harmony, delivering a wine of freshness and beauty. This wine is the most recent release of this cuvée and marks the youngest wine in this vertical from 2016–2022. This has miles to go before it sleeps, but I daresay it will have all been consumed before the 2021 reaches the end of the clearing of its path. 15% alcohol, sealed under natural cork.
