The Teusner story begins in 2001 when Kym Teusner overheard Steve Riebke (a 5th generation grape grower) and his brother Leon lamenting the fact that their 90 year old Grenache vineyard was due for destruction. A plan was hatched, some money scratched together, a vineyard was saved and a winery was born with the first release of Teusner Joshua in 2002.
Today, Teusner still focuses on the ancient vines which make the Barossa so unique. Vineyards up to 130 years of age are sourced from across the Barossa, taking full advantage of the diverse range of terroirs the region has to offer.

Rich, densely concentrated and silky this a seductive pleasure-bent GSM.

The 2022 Avatar is made up of a blend of 50% Grenache, 40% Mataro and 10% Shiraz which is aged in seasoned oak for a period of 12 months. Deep black dark red colour with a dark red hue. Expressive dark raspberry, liquorice and dark cherry aromas leap out of the glass with great intensity followed by some red plum, scorched earth and peppered dried herb notes. Rich, densely concentrated and silky in its texture, the palate is saturated with spicy dark raspberry, liquorice and dark plum fruits with some ripe cherry, scorched earth, dried herb and blackpepper elements layered across the back half. Boasting superb power and depth it has a velvety yet sturdy tannin structure which imparts a subtle muscular feel. Concludes very long, juicy and peppery.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%

Other Reviews….
A blend of old-vine grenache, mataro and shiraz; matured in used oak to throw all the focus on the fruits and their freshness, coupled with the second great vintage conditions in a row after ’21. Irresistible. Drink by 2032.
