While the origins of this domaine date back to Charles-Louis-Noel Billaud in 1815, it's the current generation winemaker Samuel Billaud that has made waves with the exceptional quality of his wines produced since the creation of this project in 2009. Following the sale of the family business Domaine Billaud-Simon to Faiveley in 2014, Samuel received further prized parcels of land and now makes wines from five of the grand cru vineyards, and five of the top premier cru vineyards. The wines are vinified in a mixture of stainless steel and large old wood barrels, the latter mainly for the premier and grand cru wines.

Other Reviews....
A ripe and nicely fresh nose combines notes of mostly citrus and white orchard fruit. There is both solid volume and energy to the delicious middleweight flavors that conclude in a refreshing, nicely dry and zesty finish where a touch of spritz slowly appears. This offers good quality for its level. Drink through 2024+.

Allen Meadows - Burghound

The 2022 Bourgogne Chardonnay is the usual blend of Auxerrois and Mâconnais must, and it has turned out nicely, delivering aromas of pears, apples, white flowers and fresh bread, followed by a medium-bodied, ample and fleshy palate that's pure and charming, nodding more to the south than the north this year. Drink 2023-2030.

The 2022 Bourgogne d'Or, a blend between Mâcon Nord and Auxerrois, has a fragrant nose with hints of melted butter and yellow flowers and a touch of vanilla pod in the background. The palate is well-balanced with a pleasant "bite" on the entry, fresh and tangy, with a hint of marmalade on the finish. Drink 2023-2027.

Neal Martin - Vinous

This is a 6,000 bottle cuvée, bottled a month ago, the usual blend of half Mâconnais and half Auxerrois. A clear pale colour, with a fresh vinous nose, some melon character, no more than medium bodied, yet with a fresh finish. Drink from 2023-2024.

Attractive wine with quite a bit of colour, good acidity and apple fruit character. 50% of the grapes from north of Mâcon, 50% Chablis from Auxerre. Drink 2024-2027.
