2022 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Puligny Montrachet Les Garennes Premier Cru
After leaving his family domaine in 2005, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey has established himself as one of the rising stars of Burgundy. Pierre-Yves has built a strong reputation for crafting exquisite white Burgundy that display energy and vitality. The white wines are whole bunch pressed, fermented with natural yeasts, aged on lees for up to 18 months in mostly in 350 litre barrels with no lees stirring and no filtration. The corks used come from one tiny supplier and are extra long and extra wide (55mm x 25mm) for the village, 1er cru and Grand cru wines and are untreated with no paraffin and the bottles are then sealed with soft wax to ensure no problems with premature oxidation. The resulting wines are built to age classically up to 10 years or more.
Other Reviews....
Moderate wood is present on the markedly floral, and elegant, nose of various white floral aromas that are nuanced by notes of citrus, a broad array of spice elements and a touch of green apple. The super-sleek but well-concentrated medium weight flavors flash ample minerality that adds a sense of lift to the beautifully textured finale where the innate class of Puligny is on display. Drink through 2030+.

Unfurling in the glass with gently reductive aromas of apple blossom, white peach and pear, the 2022 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne is medium to full-bodied, ample and charming, with a pure, vibrant and enveloping core of fruit underpinned by lively acids, concluding with a mineral finish.

The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne 1er Cru comes from one of the last parcels to be picked since the vines are located on higher contours, the growth cycle always lagging behind its peers. The very pretty bouquet is lively with orange blossom, wild peach and crushed stone. The palate is well-balanced and perhaps doesn't deliver on the promise of the nose at the moment, as it is quite closed. Lovely spice and stem ginger notes on the finish, but I'd like a little more nervosité. Drink 2025-2042.

Neal Martin - Vinous
Alluring aromas of ripe apricot and nectarine shaded with white flowers and flint feature on the initial attack of this outstanding wine from Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey. The texture is elegant and lively, with marvellous acidity and enough substance to ensure a lingering finish. The grapes are from a domaine parcel of 0.14 hectares very high on the slope in thin limestone and clay soils. This substantial, dynamic wine should open in three to five years and drink well for a further 20. Drink 2025-2045.

The last to be picked, at same time as the Hautes Côtes. Mathis really likes this wine for its intensity-plus-austerity at the outset. It does indeed show a linear intensity, with ripe golden apples towards the back and excellent length. Such a different feel after tasting the line of Chassagne. Exemplary for this lesser known Puligny 1er Cru. Drink from 2028-2035.
