2022 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne Montrachet Les Baudines Premier Cru
After leaving his family domaine in 2005, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey has established himself as one of the rising stars of Burgundy. Pierre-Yves has built a strong reputation for crafting exquisite white Burgundy that display energy and vitality. The white wines are whole bunch pressed, fermented with natural yeasts, aged on lees for up to 18 months in mostly in 350 litre barrels with no lees stirring and no filtration. The corks used come from one tiny supplier and are extra long and extra wide (55mm x 25mm) for the village, 1er cru and Grand cru wines and are untreated with no paraffin and the bottles are then sealed with soft wax to ensure no problems with premature oxidation. The resulting wines are built to age classically up to 10 years or more.
Other Reviews....
More elegant, cooler and airier aromas include those of Granny Smith apples, mineral reduction, exotic tea and plenty of citrus elements. The succulent but intense and overtly mineral-driven middleweight flavors possess good cut on the youthfully austere and sneaky long finale. Here too more depth would be helpful but that shouldn't be an issue with a few years of bottle aging. Drink through 2029+.

The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Baudines bursts with aromas of spiced pears, white flowers, hazelnuts and vanilla pod. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and racy, with a sweet core of fruit and a seamless, charming profile, it will offer a broad drinking window.

William Kelley - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Baudines 1er Cru, a long-term contract of grapes from vines on very white soils prone to oïdium, has a very attractive nose with chalk, white peach and citrus notes. Good vigor. The palate is very well-balanced with a crisp bead of acidity. Very elegant and harmonious in style, with a dab of reduction on the finish, suggesting it will need 3-4 years in bottle and/or a long decant. But it will be worth it. Drink 2027-2045.

Neal Martin - Vinous
This often-overlooked premier cru has delivered outstanding results in 2022, with a focused gooseberry and passionfruit aroma with hints of linden flowers and flint and an underpinning of saline minerality. The texture is lively with vibrant acidity that balances the concentrated extract and carries the wine to an impressively long finish. Savvy collectors will let this open for three to five years from the vintage before opening; it should drink well for at least 20 years. Drink 2027-2050.

Baudines is not a heavy cropper and there is always an oidium risk. Definitely a green tint to the colour. Some elegance, quite racy, never much flesh on the bones with this cuvée but there is certainly enough. Fine finish too. Drink from 2027-2033.
