2022 Penley Estate Tolmer Cabernet Sauvignon
A sturdily built Coonawarra Cabernet with plenty of rich blackcurrant fruit.
Black as night heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Elevated blackcurrant and liquorice aromas intermingle with black olive, vanillin cedar and spicy tobacco notes. Rich, ripe blackcurrant fruit is framed by sturdily built tannins. Notions of liquorice, spicy vanillin cedar, gentle tobacco and earthy dried herb elements extend across the back half. Chewy and muscular in it’s feel with a deeply fruited finish.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
Alc. 14.5%
Other Reviews….
This vintage sees the wine matured in 20% new oak for 12 months. It's a brooding wine with black cherries, brown spices and undulating waves of acidity. A carob and black-sesame-paste richness. There is almost a sarsaparilla spice without the sweetness that follows those concoctions. Some velvety but persistent tannins, and caraway and rye spice on the finish. A very edible wine with plenty of character and interest. Drink by 2030.
