Louis-Benoit Desvignes and his sister Claude-Emmanuelle Desvignes today run this historic estate in Morgon. This 13-hectare domaine produces some of the longest-lived and most serious wines in the Beaujolais. Old vines, organically farmed and harvested late, produce grapes that see traditional winemaking with whole clusters, long macerations and a submerged cap. The result is a range of inky, saturated reds with plenty of character and structure, and the top cuvées will have no trouble evolving for two decades.

Other Reviews....
The 2022 Morgon Côte du Py Javernières is captivatingly fragrant with aromas of cherries, pomegranate, dried petals, Earl Grey tea, slate and Indian spices. The palate is medium to full-bodied and packed with a silken core of fruits interlaced with salinity. It has a lining of ripe acidity and a persistent tension from the chalk-like tannins that impart a subtle resistance; together, this draws the wine out with great sophistication, culminating in a long, crafted finish. This is a wine that, despite all of the material it is working with, boasts admirable poise and elegance. Drink 2026-2042.

The 2022 Morgon Côte du Py Javernières is blessed with wonderful transparency and complexity on the nose: vivid red berry fruit, wilted rose petal and crushed stones. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. It's fresh and focused, gently building to a tensile, lightly spiced and quite persistent finish. Real class. Drink 2025-2040.
