2022 Joshua Cooper Dash Vineyard Chardonnay

Described by wine commentator Mike Bennie as "one of Australia’s brightest young winemakers”, Joshua Cooper is steadily forging a reputation for thoughtful, elegant, and confident wines from grapes grown in Macedon and surrounds. Established in 1999, Dash Farms is nestled at an elevation of 450 meters, positioned on the southern slopes of Mt Alexander (Leanganook), just outside of the Macedon Ranges. These rocky granite soils and the lofty altitude combine to produce wines of great concentration and freshness. The Chardonnay grapes are carefully handpicked and gently pressed before undergoing fermentation and aging on lees for 12 months in a blend of new Stockinger 300-liter oak barrels and traditional Burgundian piece barrels.

From Mt Alexander and a single vineyard site that lies just outside the Macedon Ranges GI. Pretty strong track record for chardonnay for this younger gen producer.
There’s this beautiful chew and chalkiness to this wine, succulence in essence, a minerality that speaks of granite and slate, a coda of saline nuttiness and all the grapefruity tang married to green apple crunch. Thirst-slaking in nature with a strong sense of savouriness, a wine of understatement too, a kind of levity and purity with gentle seasoning to draw out the notion of complexity. My oh my, so much pleasure here. Drink 2023 - 2030.

The 2022 Dash Farms Vineyard Chardonnay is precise and salty, with a score of scintillating acidity that courses across the palate. There is salted white peach, crushed cashew, cut fennel, star anise, white flowers, a hint of green tea and very fine, pumice stone tannins. This is a sensational wine—superb, in fact. Needlepoint precision and detail here. It's svelte, seamless, unbroken and persistent. 13% alcohol, sealed under Diam and wax. Drink 2023-2036
