2022 Jim Barry Watervale Riesling

Brilliant water like colour with a subtle tinge of green around the edges. Intense lemon, lime and talc scents engulf the nostrils followed by some orange rind and steely mineral notes. Very concentrated with a generous yet super crunchy texture, the palate is awash with powerful waves of lime, citrus and orange rind fruits. Talc, wet steel and mineral characters lie underneath. Finishes dry with racy acidity and a long scrumptious aftertaste. Trophy winner at the 2022 Royal Queensland Wine awards for best Riesling in show.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

In a word: excellent. This 2022 Watervale Riesling has soapstone, lavender, lime flesh, pumice stone phenolics and very fine, curvy acidity. It sits well in the mouth, and it lingers through into a long finish. It's incredible value for the money from one of the shining star producers in the region, going from strength to strength under the young/fresh leadership of the third-generation Barry brothers (Sam, in commercial, Tom, winemaker). It won a trophy at the QLD Wine Show 2022. Drink 2022-2042.
