Hudelot-Noëllat is no longer one of Burgundy’s hidden gems as word is well and truly out now on just how exceptional these wines are. Charles Van Canneyt runs this iconic family owned domaine based in Vougeot where he crafts elegant and classic wines from some of the region’s most prized vineyards. Staying true to tradition, Charles practices minimal intervention in the cellar along with limited new oak usage. His aim is to produce refined Burgundy with an emphasis on purity and finesse, all while letting the terroir shine.

Other Reviews....
All the grapes for this cuvée are still destemmed: 'I'm a classic guy,' according to winemaker Charles van Canneyt. His Charmes is produced from two parcels that total 0.21 hectares. He extracts carefully, using a mixture of punching down and pumping over before ageing in cask (primarily used). The result is lighter than some from this vineyard, with a supple, elegant texture and perfumed cherry fruit aromas that are very pleasant. This wine excels in both quality and Chambolle typicity. Drink 2028-2055.

Once again there is a highly attractive freshness to the bright, airy and cool aromas of essence of red cherry, anise, violet and rose petal. Like the Murgers, the middleweight flavors are not especially dense but possess a lilting and silky mouthfeel that is wonderfully appealing before terminating in a dusty, stony, moderately austere and sneaky long finale that doesn't lack for aging potential. This is not only quite good but also quite classy. Drink through 2034.

The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes is a beauty, bursting with aromas of red cherries, raspberries, rose petals and spices. Medium to full-bodied, supple and sensual, with a deep core of pure, vibrant fruit framed by bright acids and supple tannins, it concludes with a saline finish.

The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru has a pure and perfumed bouquet with pastille-like red cherries and strawberries unfurling from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with granular tannins and a touch of sour cherry, light on its feet with an open finish. This should drink earlier than its peers, though I am sure it will gain weight in its second winter. Drink 2025-2035.

Mid crimson ruby. Quite sensual on the nose, with light youthful bitters on the palate, while the fruit profile is raspberry more than other red berries. Decent density here, and fair persistence but not quite the same class as the Nuits-St-Georges Murgers. Drink from 2030-2038.
