2022 Gut Oggau Mechthild

Gut Oggau is a leading natural wine producer based in Burgenland, Austria, celebrated for its expressive, biodynamically farmed wines. Established in 2007, husband and wife Stephanie and Eduard Tscheppe-Eselböck took over one of the oldest estates in the region, with the manor’s oldest walls dating back to the 17th century. Certified biodynamic by Demeter, the estate focuses on indigenous grape varieties and minimal intervention, crafting wines without added SO₂ to let the vineyard speak clearly. Each wine is represented by a fictional family member on the label, reflecting the wine’s unique personality and story. The result is a compelling range that combines tradition, sustainability, and vibrant, soulful drinking.
Mechthild is the matriarch of the Gut Oggau family—Made from 100% Grüner Veltliner sourced from the estate’s oldest vines, over 60 years of age, planted on limestone and slate soils. Fruit is hand harvested, fermented on skins in large wooden vats, and aged in 1500L barrels. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without sulphur additions. Structured and textural, showing depth, minerality, and age-worthy complexity.
