2022 Gut Oggau Joschuari
Gut Oggau is a leading natural wine producer based in Burgenland, Austria, celebrated for its expressive, biodynamically farmed wines. Established in 2007, husband and wife Stephanie and Eduard Tscheppe-Eselböck took over one of the oldest estates in the region, with the manor’s oldest walls dating back to the 17th century. Certified biodynamic by Demeter, the estate focuses on indigenous grape varieties and minimal intervention, crafting wines without added SO₂ to let the vineyard speak clearly. Each wine is represented by a fictional family member on the label, reflecting the wine’s unique personality and story. The result is a compelling range that combines tradition, sustainability, and vibrant, soulful drinking.
Joschuari is the darker, more powerful side of the Gut Oggau family—Made from 100% Blaufränkisch grown on 35-year-old vines rooted in limestone and shale soils. Fruit is harvested by hand, partially destemmed, and left to macerate on skins for seven months. Fermentation is spontaneous with wild yeasts, followed by 20 months of ageing in large oak barrels. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without sulphur additions.
