2022 Gundog Estate Hunter’s Shiraz
Matured for 12 months in French oak puncheons. Dark red heart with black toned edges and a bright red hue. Red plum and red liquorice aromas infused with smoked meats, earth and peppered clove notes emerge from the glass. The elegant mid weighted palate features red plum and liquorice fruits over earth, dried meats and peppered dried herb characters. Fresh acidity and fine grained tannins with a mid length conclusion.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
Alc. 13.5%
Other Reviews……
Two low-yielding, old Pokolbin vineyards, Will's Hill and Tinklers, create a wine with bold flavours supported by an elegant structure. Ripe, energetic toffee apple flavours are found at the front of the palate, followed by more profound, intense baked plum flavours in the mid-zone. There is good general vibrancy plus fresh acidity on the close. I applaud the astute use of oak, allowing the quality fruit to shine. Drink by 2027.
