Dense midnight black core with a vibrant dark red hue. Fragrant ripe blueberry, dark cherry and liquorice scents drift through the nostrils followed by some dark plum, vanillin cedar and spice. Rich, fleshy and super juicy the palate is a concentrate of delicious, freshly crushed dark cherries, ripe blueberries, dark plum and liquorice fruits. Subtle earth, vanillin cedar and spice elements lurk beneath. Superb power and polished tannins finishing with a lick of youthful freshness on the long, deeply fruited and highly succulent aftertaste.

Other Reviews.....
Mataro, 1997-planted from three distinct soil types on the Greenock Creek estate, matured in old American (75%) and French oak (25%). As is always the case with wines from this cult producer, there is incredible concentration on display all the while showing balance despite the heady alcohol content. Opulent blue and black fruits with characteristic mataro spice and garrigue with layers of dark spice, fine tannins and impressive energy and fruit heft on the finish. Drink by 2035.
