Dune is a project of brothers Duncan and Peter Lloyd (next generation Coriole) using fruit sourced from their vineyard in the Blewitt Springs sub-region of McLaren Vale. Blewitt Springs is known for deep sandy soils on yellow clays where Shiraz typically ripens later than other parts of McLaren Vale. It typically produces Shiraz of lifted dark fruit, floral and meaty notes, the tannin is fine yet chalky and the wines are often medium bodied rather than full.

Impressively rich, concentrated and fleshy yet not heavy, this is a power packed McLaren Vale Shiraz that delivers great value.

Matured in seasoned oak for 12 months. Impenetrable inky black heart with a deep dark red black hue. Unfurling from the glass with plenty of intensity are aromatics of black cherry, liquorice and dark plum which are interwoven with vanillin cedar, scorched earth and peppered meat notes. Rich and fleshy yet not over weight the seductive palate is blessed with succulent black cherry and liquorice fruits. Scorched earth, dark plum, subtle vanillin cedar and peppered meat characters ensue. Velvety yet slightly chewy tannins finishing long, lush and peppery.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 14.4%

Other Reviews…..
Uses a mixture of whole bunch, whole berry and crushed fruit, matured in used oak for 12 months. Deeply coloured; full, rich flavours of velvety black cherry, blackberry and spice all-sorts, with tannins so round they disappear in the black fruits. Oh-so-easy to swallow if that wasn’t forbidden. Drink to 2035.

I had an old Ford Escort once that blew its springs. I’ll fetch my coat.
Perfumed, nutty, meaty, black fruit. Medium to full-bodied, again quite umami with some nori flavour, choc-hazelnut and juicy dark cherry, dry spice, fleshy and creamy tannin, good length with it. Quite ferrous, but also floral. Lovely wine. I often ponder the absurdity of assigning scores to wines, so this is either 93 or 94 points. I can’t quite decide. Drink 2023-2030.
