2022 Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru
Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret farms an impressive 75 acres of vineyards across much of the Cote d'Or in Burgundy, covering 35 separate appellations. While this leads to many different styles of wines to be produced, their house style leans towards rich and supple wines, with impressive concentration that show well in their youth yet age with ease. Other than a portion of their Richebourg, all grapes are fully destemmed before a cool soak of 4-5 days prior to alcoholic fermentation. As a guide no more than 50% new oak is used in their premier cru wines, while up to 70% is used in their top grand cru plots. The wines are bottled after 18-22 months with no filtration.
Other Reviews....
Incredible depth for a pinot that’s so expressive yet delicate. There is mineral depth to the aromas of red berries, dark fruit, bergamot, dried roses, stones, wet forest floor and sweet spices. The tension on the palate creates fullness, but without any heaviness in the middle. Rather ethereal, well structured and super long, lasting over a minute. One for the cellar. Already great now, but this will be stunning in three to five years.
