Le Clos du Caillou was established in 1895 with the Vacheron family taking over in 1956, focusing on organic farming and planting vineyards. Now, the younger Vacheron generation is gradually assuming control, with guidance from Bruno Gaspard.
The Cotes du Rhone Blanc consists of 50% Grenache Blanc, 35% Viognier, and 15% Clairette, sourced from 40-50 year-old low yielding vines. Hand-picked fruit is carefully sorted, then gently pressed as whole bunches and left to settle overnight at 10°C. Afterward, they undergo cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks and age on fine lees for four months.
Bright pale straw colour with straw tinged edges and a watery hue. Aromas of pear and ripe Jonathan apple mix with honeysuckle and ginger spice notes. Fleshy pear, apricot and honeysuckle flavours have a luscious feel and carry good textural volume. Notions of wet stone and subtle ginger lie underneath. Finishes dry with good freshness and a well rounded, gently spice conclusion.
Drink over the next 1-2 years.
Alc. 13.5%

Other Reviews….
The 2022 Cotes du Rhone Le Caillou Blanc is a blend of Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Viognier, including some purchased fruit from the north of Vaucluse. It sees only stainless steel. Notes of pear, tangerine and anise appear on the nose, while the medium-bodied palate is plump and appealing, with hints of chalk and lime zest on the finish. Drink 2023-2025.
