2022 Clarence House Estate Pinot Noir
Clarence House Estate’s small vineyard is located just north of Hobart on a perfectly positioned north-east facing slope. The talented Anna Pooley from Pooley wines the contracted winemaker. The Estate blend comprises fruit from all three pinot blocks, utilizing five different clones with harvest occurring over two weeks. Wild fermented with a small portion of whole bunch (5%), the wine was aged in a combination of new (10%) and old French oak barriques and puncheons for a period of 10 months.
Very deep dark red black tinged core with a vibrant purple red hue. Exploding out of the glass are perfumed like aromatics of violets, juicy dark cherries and strawberries infused with fresh herbs. Some anise and subtle spicy cedar notes ensue. Still very youthful and bright the palate is awash with delicious red to dark cherry and wild strawberry fruits. Infusions of fresh herbs, traces of anise and delicate forest floor characters ensue. Lively and fresh with polished tannins and a long juicy yet elegant conclusion.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
