One of the many enjoyable Haut-Médoc wines in 2022. Juicy and fruit forward, this has lively acidity that keeps the palate lifted, bright and succulent from the first sip while the quite firm tannins take hold and give the structure. The two work quite well together - aided by fleshy fruit and cool minerality - even though the frame is tight and knitted down for now. Promising. 3.8pH. A yield of 45hl/ha. Ageing 12 months in French oak, 50% new, 50% one wine. 55ha estate near the village of Lamarque. Rolland & Associés consultants. Drink 2026 - 2037.

Lots of ripe red and black fruits, graphite, espresso roast, and tobacco emerge from the 2022 Château Du Cartillon, a medium to full-bodied, structured wine that brings lots of character and quality but is going to need short-term cellaring.
