2021 Vino Volta Post Modern Seriousism Grenache
Dark red core with black shaded edges and a light purple red hue. Spicy dark raspberry aromas mix with red liquorice and red cherry followed by some earthy graphite like notes and peppered herbs. Light crunchy red raspberry and red liquorice fruits are underpinned by energetic acidity which provides focus and a taut feel. Scorched earth and peppered herb elements are also evident. Chalky tannins finishing vibrant and muscular.
Cellar 3-4 years.
Swan Valley grenache – yeehaw. From 2 dry-grown 65yo bush-vine plots at the base of the Darling Scarp. Wild ferment with 20-50% whole bunches across several small ferments, then pressed to old oak for 8 months' maturation. Super-reductive upon opening, but the fruit that lies beneath is supple and fine boned. It's got that classic grenache muscle and brawn to the tannins, yet it is all contained within a mid-weight framework. Tomato leaf, raspberry humbug, rhubarb and star anise. Smart. Drink by 2029.
