2021 Vinelea Chardonnay

Winemaker Stuart Smith produces an old traditional style of Chardonnay that’s big on flavour and texture. The 2021 vintage was picked in 5 parcels across 4 weeks to ensure optimum physiological and organoleptic ripeness. In order to impart additional textural richness the wine was lees stirred and underwent 100% malolactic fermentation. Barrels were racked at the end of the first year, the wine then returned to barrel for an additional 6 months for aging. 40% new French oak was used.
Brilliant pale straw to straw colour with a watery hue. Intense ripe peach, honeycomb and crème brulee aromas fill the nostrils trailed by some roasted almond, subtle butterscotch, nougat and spice notes. Rich, creamy textured and mouth filling, the full bodied palate is engulfed with ripe peach, crème brulee, honeycomb and butterscotch flavours. Lingering through the back half are roasted almond, nougat and spice elements. Carefully balanced acidity provides underlying freshness and keeps all of the components in perfect balance. Excellent power finishing long and opulent.
