2021 Vickery Eden Valley Riesling

John Vickery is a legend of the Australian wine industry and is widely acknowledged as the old master of Riesling. His illustrious career spans over 50 years at the likes of Leo Buring and Richmond Grove during which time he amassed more than 50 Trophies and over 400 gold medals. He was also responsible for the re-introduction of screw caps with his 1998 Richmond Grove Watervale Riesling.
The 2021 vintage produced wines of exceptional quality from Eden Valley. The season started with promising rainfall and idyllic winter conditions. The following Spring and Summer were dry, once again with below average rainfalls which resulted in lower-than-average yields. The resulting wines are delicate and expressive, with bright natural acidity and intense flavours.
Brilliant water like colour with a very faint tinge of green around the outskirts. Intense lime and citrus aromatics are followed by orange rind, talc and chalky mineral notes. Concentrated lemon and lime fruits engulf the mouth underpinned by crunchy acidity. Notions of orange rind, chalky talc characters and flinty minerals ensue. Finishes dry and snappy with a long zesty aftertaste.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

Has a fresh lemon and lime nose that carries beautifully spicy and fragrant character, as well as some white nectarine and white peach. This is packed with flavor and has an intensely rich palate. The acidity is pitched perfectly and there’s a lot of depth, too. Drink or hold.
