2021 Valli Waitaki Vineyard Pinot Noir

Winemaker Grant Taylor is a pioneer of the Otago region and has been crafting wines since 1993 when there were only 20 hectares planted.  Established in 1998 and named after Grant’s Great-Great Grandfather, Giuseppe Valli, who immigrated to New Zealand from an Italian winemaking background, Valli has established itself as one of the regions leading wineries and has won numerous international awards.

Rich, concentrated and dangerously seductive this is a superb North Otago Pinot.

Matured for 11 months in 29% new French oak. Deep dark red core with black shaded edges and a dark red hue. Engulfing the nostrils are intense dark cherry, anise and dark plum scents with some dried herb, earth, smoked meat, brambly cedar and spice notes also chiming in. Rich, powerful and fleshy textured the mid weighted palate is saturated with juicy dark to black cherry, dark plum and anise flavours. Lying underneath and lending further complexity are some ripe strawberry, scorched earth, dried herb, meaty elements, brambly cedar and spice. Supple in its feel it has beautifully polished tannins and concludes with a long expansive finish.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
