2021 Valhalla Tempranillo Reserve

Deep black dark red colour with a dark red black tinged hue. Pronounced ripe black cherry and liquorice aromas are complimented by subtle leather, scorched earth and spice notes. Juicy morello and black cherry as well as liquorice fruits carry medium body weight across the palate with some scorched earth, spicy dried herb and leather accents also chiming in. Slightly chewy tannin structure with a savoury mid length conclusion.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.

This Rutherglen-based winemaker is exploring nearby North East Victorian regions for grape sourcing with great success. Tempranillo thrives in the Alpine Valleys and this is an excellent, well-priced example. Dark in colour and personality with a deep, spiced black cherry/plum fragrance with forest undergrowth, herbs and bay leaf. A subtle hand with oak gives full and lasting expression to the fruit and well-handled acid/tannin interplay. Well balanced. More, please! Drink by 2028.
