2021 Rob Hall Willowlake Vineyard Pinot Noir
Growing up in Healesville, a young Rob Hall did some summer work in the vineyards during the early to mid nineties before taking up full time work at Yarra Ridge then Punt Road. From 2002 to 2011 he was the winemaker at Mount Mary, it wasn’t until 2014 that he took the leap and began his own operation.
2021 was a superb vintage in the Yarra Valley, the slow ripening conditions producing wines with lovely aromatics, supple textures and plenty of moreish appeal.
Semi translucent red to dark red colour with a light red hue. Alluring scents of dark cherry, strawberry and rhubarb interwoven with subtle violet and dried herb notes intoxicate the olfactory senses. Notes of forest floor and spicy cedar are also evident. Light in body and possessing a gorgeous supple textural feel, expansive flavours of dark cherry, strawberry and subtle rhubarb open up across the palate like a peacocks tail. Notions of dried herbs, forest floor and spicy cedar add a layer of complexity on the back half. Silky smooth tannins concluding long refined and sleek.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
