Coming Soon - 2021 Produttori del Barbaresco Pora Riserva Barbaresco
Proximity to the Tanaro River creates a unique microclimate for the Pora, as well as a relative warmth in the early morning hours due to its proximity to the valley floor. The slightly higher soil fertility here gives to the wine a smoother character, with soft tannins and aromas that usually tend to open up in the early years of life. Pora is also one of the most historical vineyards in Barbaresco, as it was part of the property of Domizio Cavazza.

From a 10.5-hectare vineyard rooted in limestone-rich soils, the Produttori del Barbaresco 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Pora opens my annual tasting of the Riservas. I usually start with Pora because of its fine, silky personality and its more accessible fruit profile, which leans toward primary aromas of sweet cherry and raspberry. The 2021 vintage adds an extra layer of precision, delivering a wine of remarkable focus and definition, yet there is a moment of youthful fleshiness on the mid-palate. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in large oak botti, this wine captures the graceful side of Barbaresco while showcasing the exceptional balance of the vintage. This is a 20,000-bottle release. Drink 2026-2048.

The 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Pora is a fabulous introduction to the single-vineyard wines in this range. Pliant and resonant in the glass, the 2021 impresses with its solid core of fruit and exceptional balance. A wine of depth and structure, the Pora is compelling. Wild cherry fruit, spice, new leather and blood orange fill out the layers. This is an especially fine Pora. There is so much to look forward to. Drink 2027-2041.

Antonio Galloni - Vinous
Classic and intense yet fresh, showing sweet-violet and cherry-pit aromas, this is slightly mineral and savory with graceful balsamic depth. Medium-bodied and approachable with velvety tannins wrapped in dried flowers, tight yet interwoven in the very long finish. March 2026 release. Drink or hold.

A reflective, saturated ruby red color, the 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Pora opens with ripe aromas of raspberry, black cherry cordial, toasted cedar, and forest earth. Medium-bodied, it saturates the palate with plush fruit and an approachable texture while maintaining good length. It feels like one of the more immediate wines of the range in this noble vintage, although the oak will need time to fully integrate on the nose. Roughly 20,000 bottles were produced. Drink 2026-2046.
