Coming Soon - 2021 Produttori del Barbaresco Muncagota Riserva Barbaresco
The Muncagota vineyard looks South/East - facing cooler morning sunshine instead of the warmer afternoon sun. Because of this, it tends to show beautiful floral characteristics and often a specific mint character on the nose. Calcareous soil and a low level of sand gives to the wines of Muncagota extremely focused fruit and firm, stylish tannin. A perfect example of the elegant and intense qualities that make Barbaresco one of the most interesting and unique wines of the world.
Other Reviews...
From a warm and well-ventilated 4.5-hectare site, the Produttori del Barbaresco 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Muncagota is fleshed out and generous across the mid-palate, offering ripe flavors of blackcurrant and wild plum that lean toward the darker end of the Nebbiolo spectrum. There is greater power here in terms of both texture and aromatic intensity, making this wine feel bolder and more substantial than many of its counterparts in the Riserva lineup. The warmth of the site is evident in the wine's richness and concentration, yet the precision of the 2021 vintage keeps everything balanced and focused. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in large oak botti, this release totals 13,300 bottles and stands out for its depth and commanding presence. Drink 2027-2050.

Monica Larner - Rober Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Muncagota is laced with strong floral and savory notes. Brisk acids and beams of supporting tannin give the 2021 its driving, tense personality. I expect those qualities will be positives for the future, but today the Muncagota is pretty forbidding. Give this time. This is one of the most tense editions of this wine I can remember tasting. Drink 2027-2041.

Balsamic style jumps out of the glass, with herb, eucalyptus and potpourri aromas alongside watermelon and mint-filled chocolate. The graceful attack shows ripe, elegant tannins, larger-grained in the end, with long, refreshing acidity and a savory finish. March 2026 release. Drink or hold.

The 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Muncagota pours a bright red color and offers stunning aromatic complexity in its notes of redcurrants, incense, suede, and potpourri. Medium-bodied, it has refined tannins and a haunting, almost weightless feel that lingers through the finish. It balances power with a cooling citrus lift and beautiful elegance. Roughly 13,333 bottles were produced. Drink 2027-2047.
