Asili has created some of the greatest Barbaresco over the years and has a strong worldwide following. The main part of the vineyard is a protected bowl facing South/West, further away from the river and the valley influence with a warmer and less breezy microclimate during most of the summer. Usually quite closed in its youth it opens up slowly with impeccable complexity and style. A classic Barbaresco, and also one of the most distinctive vineyards of the region.

The Produttori del Barbaresco 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Asili is not as immediately expressive as some of the other wines in this series of Riservas, but there is tremendous energy and vibrant fruit simmering beneath the surface. In fact, Asili will require a few more years of bottle age to fully reveal its potential. Aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry, crushed stone and blue flower rise steadily from the bouquet, accompanied by hints of rosemary and lavender oil that seem poised to integrate more completely with time. Sourced from 2.9 hectares of limestone-clay soils, this wine shows impressive tension and latent power, suggesting a long evolution ahead. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in large oak botti, the 2021 Asili totals 13,000 bottles. Drink 2027-2052.

Floral, bright and bursting with energy, the Asili is a star. Blood orange, kirsch, red-toned fruit, cedar, mint and spice rush from the glass. Here, too, readers will have to be patient. This is pure and total sensuality. Drink 2027-2041.
