After leaving his family domaine in 2005, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey has established himself as one of the rising stars of Burgundy. Pierre-Yves has built a strong reputation for crafting exquisite white Burgundy that display energy and vitality. The white wines are whole bunch pressed, fermented with natural yeasts, aged on lees for up to 18 months in mostly in 350 litre barrels with no lees stirring and no filtration. The corks used come from one tiny supplier and are extra long and extra wide (55mm x 25mm) for the village, 1er cru and Grand cru wines and are untreated with no paraffin and the bottles are then sealed with soft wax to ensure no problems with premature oxidation. The resulting wines are built to age classically up to 10 years or more.

Other Reviews....
Here too there is enough reduction to render the nose difficult to assess. Otherwise, there is excellent punch and minerality to the beautifully textured medium weight flavors that conclude in a precise, stony and wonderfully refreshing finish. This balanced effort is quite dry but not really austere and a wine that should repay 5 to 8 years of keeping. Drink through 2028+.

Allen Meadows - Burghound

Offering up aromas of crisp Anjou pear, lemon oil, toasted nuts, iodine and white flowers, the 2021 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru La Chatenière is medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, with good tension, depth and persistence. It's another cuvée that shows very well this year.

The 2021 Saint-Aubin Les Chatenière 1er Cru, whose malo finished earlier than others back in July, is exceedingly complex on the nose with mineral-rich malic scents, intense and beautifully defined, very Puligny-inspired. The palate is well-balanced with a powerful opening, impressive depth and tension, superb mineralité and a bright, again, Puligny-like finish. Superb. Drink 2025-2047.

Neal Martin - Vinous

A little more yellow in the colour with a fatter creamy style of bouquet, good flesh on the palate then a ripe lemon finish with good but not excessive acidity. Complex and potentially delicious. Drink from 2025-2028.

Aromas of ripe apple, hazelnut, and butter grace the initial attack of this lovely wine from the south-facing lieu-dit of La Chatenière. The texture is more substantial than nearby Champlots, and the grapes have marvelous maturity. The site is a bit further down the slope than the former and is sheltered from the wind. Colin presses the grapes gently and runs the must into cask without settling to craft this delicious wine that easily recalls his more famous appellations. Drink 2025-2040.
