2021 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Puligny Montrachet Les Garennes Premier Cru
After leaving his family domaine in 2005, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey has established himself as one of the rising stars of Burgundy. Pierre-Yves has built a strong reputation for crafting exquisite white Burgundy that display energy and vitality. The white wines are whole bunch pressed, fermented with natural yeasts, aged on lees for up to 18 months in mostly in 350 litre barrels with no lees stirring and no filtration. The corks used come from one tiny supplier and are extra long and extra wide (55mm x 25mm) for the village, 1er cru and Grand cru wines and are untreated with no paraffin and the bottles are then sealed with soft wax to ensure no problems with premature oxidation. The resulting wines are built to age classically up to 10 years or more.
Other Reviews....
A much more floral-suffused nose speaks primarily of green fruit and just squeezed citrus. The delicious, racy and beautifully detailed middleweight flavors exude an abundance of minerality on the lemony, very dry and lengthier finish. This solidly concentrated effort needs to develop better depth but the potential is here. Drink through 2029+.

There are two barrels of the 2021 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne, a medium to full-bodied, ample and racy white redolent of crisp green orchard fruit, waxy citrus, fresh mint and white flowers. Satiny, pure and precise, it concludes with a mouthwateringly saline finish.

William Kelley - Wine Advocate (Feb 01, 2023)
The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne 1er Cru has a succinct nose with Braeburn apple, Cornice pear and subtle petrichor scents that discretely unfold in the glass, but never get too carried away. The palate is well balanced with some new oak to be subsumed on the entry, fine depth, a little richer than other crus with orange zest perking up the finish. This has a very late malo and it requires the second winter in barrel to bind it together, but the potential is here. Drink 2025-2045.

A tiny cuvée of one barrel, made apart because there was nowhere to declassify it, except Bourgogne! Mid yellow colour, some generosity to the nose. A lime touch in the bouquet as well. Plenty of energy in its linear, hillside style. Juicy and quite long. Drink from 2025-2030.

This inspiring wine combines notes of citrus, ripe pear and green apples with hints of mineral, smoke and spice. The texture is lively and fresh but not without velvety charm – crisp acidity balanced by moderate body and extract leading to a lingering finish. Only one barrel was produced due to frost damage; it is still maturing in cask and will not be racked for bottling before the end of the second winter. Drink 2025-2040.
