Impenetrable inky black heart with a very deep dark red black hue. Flooding the nostrils are blackberry, liquorice and ripe black cherry aromas complimented by some vanillin cedar, fennel, scorched earth and blackpepper notes. Rich and opulent yet muscular in it’s stance, the full bodied palate is saturated with succulent blackberry, liquorice and black cherry fruits which are shaped by sculptured tannins. Extending across the back half are vanillin cedar, earthy fennel and blackpepper elements. Concentrated and powerful it has a long, generously endowed yet robust conclusion.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 14.5%
Other Reviews….
This was such a good vintage in McLaren vale and Blewitt Springs, and it shows itself superbly in this excellent wine. There's lots of power here, but it's perfectly controlled and harnessed to release into its sustained finish. The aromas are spicy, dried herb and dark plummy blackberry. The palate has a firm richness and concentration with even hints of dark chocolate and lightly dusted coffee grinds. But it is that punchy, intense fruit that triumphs and emerges in the finish. It's a wine of tremendous brightness and energy.

Impressive and rich, yet stylish and graceful, the wine shows dark fruit intensity, smoked game, star anise, liquorice, and cedar characters on the nose. The palate displays excellent concentration and plump mouthfeel, combined with layers of grainy tannins, making it sturdy and structured with a sustained, satisfying finish. At its best: now to 2040.
