2021 Neldner Road by Dave Powell Steinert Flaxman’s Valley Shiraz
Dense inky black core with a very deep dark red black tinged hue. Potent ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark plum aromas engulf the nostrils trailed by toasty vanillin cedar, mocha, fennel and peppered earth notes. Rich, concentrated and enveloping across the full bodied palate, lush blackberry, dark plum and liquorice fruits sit over a toasty vanillin oak, fennel, smoked meat and pepper back drop. Beautifully polished tannins. Plush and fleshy it boasts outstanding power. Finishes long with a lingering toasty element.
Cellar 8-10 years.
Alc. 14.5%
Other Reviews….
The 2021 Steinert Flaxman’s Shiraz leads with a framing of toasty oak, but the fruit that sits behind is concentrated and coiled. The wine is laden with tobacco and flowers, raspberry pip and freshly turned earth, quartz and black tea, sweet roasted meat drippings, clove and star anise. It has all the building blocks of a long and great future ahead of it, but for now, the oak is showing. It spent 22 months in 100% new French oak. Note the drinking window, as I see it. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under natural cork. Drink 2028-2041.
