2021 Moorooduc Estate Pinot Noir
Moorooduc Estate, planted in 1982, was one of the first to be established on the Mornington Peninsula by Richard and Jill McIntyre. With yields of less than 2 tons per acre and the fruit 100% destemmed the resultant wine was matured in French oak with 20% being new for a period of 10 months.
Semi translucent dark red colour with a light red to brick red hue. Sailing from the glass are lifted spicy dark cherry, strawberry and anise scents trailed by some dried herb, forest floor and brambly cedar notes. Glossy in its feel, the light to mid weighted palate features dark cherry, strawberry and anise flavours over a forest floor, dried herb and spicy cedar back drop. Polished tannins finishing with a good amount of freshness on the long savoury conclusion.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 13.5%
Other Reviews…..
Now, this has come together beautifully and appears so gentle and refined. Subtle aromas of spiced cherries and autumnal leaves, sumac and woodsy spices. The palate is shy of medium-bodied with fine, lacy tannins, a core of sweet-ish fruit and a savoury overlay. It’s compelling and totally enticing, so it’s a shame this is not out now – boo hoo! In 2024 apparently, but worth following up.
