2021 Montalto Pennon Hill Pinot Noir

2021 looks to be an exceptional vintage across the Peninsula with Montalto winemaker Simon Black summing it up as follows “2021 looks to be a winemaker’s dream with the wines revealing tremendous varietal definition, wonderful purity of perfume and intense aromatics.”
For this wine grapes were sourced across a range of Montalto’s vineyards comprised of 7% Main Ridge, 44% Red Hill, 9% Merricks and 40% Tuerong. Maturation took place in French oak barriques and Puncheons (20% new) for a period of 9 months.
Semi translucent red to dark red colour with a light red hue. Captivating aromas of violets, red cherries and strawberries show wonderful lift out of the glass with some brambly forest floor like notes, dried herb and spicy cedar scents lending further complexity. Delicious red to dark cherry and strawberry fruits unfold across the palate like a peacocks tail carrying a silken feel. Infusions of fresh herbs, forest floor and delicate spicy cedar elements ensue. Velvet smooth tannins concluding long, supple and powerful. Super moreish drinking over the next 5-6 years.
