2021 Meadowbank Chardonnay

The 2021 vintage was picked twice, the first parcel for freshness and the second for structure, then whole-bunch pressed directly to French puncheons (just 10% new). Fermented wild, the wine underwent partial malo, while 20% of the barrels remained un-sulphured to take on oxygen-derived complexity. The wine spent the following nine months in barrel on lees before it was bottled without fining or filtration.
Brilliant pale straw colour with highlights of green around the outskirts and a watery hue. Aromas of nectarine, lime and dried honey mix with subtle citrusy nougat and flinty mineral notes. Possessing excellent concentration and a sleek mouthfeel fleshy white peach and nectarine fruits overlay notions of dried honey, citrusy nougat and faint crème brulee. Fresh with a long gently creamed finish.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
