2021 Maxwell Silver Hammer Shiraz

Mark Maxwell and his family established Maxwell wines in 1979 and for many years were best known for their Honey Mead (which is still available).The Silver Hammer takes its name from a famous song by four famous performers from the 1960's (if you can't guess who they are, you are probably too young to be reading wine reviews!). The wine was matured for a period of between 12-15 months in both French and American oak barrels of which 5% were new.
Dense black as night core with a very deep dark red black hue. Wafting out of the glass are alluring ripe dark plum, liquorice and mocha aromas which intermingle with toasty vanillin oak, earth and spice notes. Rich mouth coating flavours of ripe dark plum, liquorice and dark chocolate are layered across the opulent palate with earthy mocha, vanillin oak and spice characters in the background. Velvety tannins finishing long and plush.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
